Course Description:

This course is a continuation of the course, Abstract Algebra I. We will cover topics on Galois theory, modules over general rings and representation theory of finite groups. Students are welcome to suggest additional topics. Students are expected to be familiar with algebraic structures such as groups, rings and fields.

Grading Information:

Homework is assigned every week and collected the next week. Later homework is not accepted. The lowest among the all homework scores will be dropped for each student. Students are encouraged to discuss the assignments among themselves and form ever-lasting friendship. On Wednesdays of even-numbered weeks, we will discuss the solutions to some of the homework problems and some extended topics. Bonus points will be given to students who present the solutions/topics. Midterm will take place at a date to be announced and the final is scheduled on 15:30 - 17:30, 6th July, 2018 at HGX202. The grade will be based on the homework scores (30%), the midterm (30%), the final (40%) and the bonus points.
